FRSC to prosecute TikTok influencer Peller over road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a road traffic crash reportedly linked to his live-streaming while driving.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, condemned the incident, stressing that celebrities and social media influencers must not use their fame as a shield against the law.

“This incident serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” Mohammed said in a statement signed by the corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Mohammed noted that live streaming, recording content, or engaging in any activity that distracts a driver while on the road violates traffic regulations and poses serious risks to all road users.

“Actions like this undermine national efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities. No social media content, online trend, or momentary clout is worth a human life,” he added.

The FRSC has instructed its Lagos State Sector Commander to initiate prosecution against Peller for reckless driving, using a phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with extant traffic laws.

The Corps Marshal also called on professional bodies in the entertainment industry, including actors’ guilds, influencer networks, and content creator communities, to ensure that their members act responsibly on the roads.

“Celebrities and influencers wield significant influence, especially among young Nigerians. They must be seen as ambassadors of safety, not symbols of recklessness,” Mohammed said.
