Friendly: Super Eagles’ Moffi expects tough Portugal clash

Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi, has admitted that Nigeria will face a stern challenge against Portugal in next week’s international friendly.

Moffi, who scored in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final, also found the net on Wednesday as the Super Eagles settled for a 2-2 draw against Poland in an international friendly encounter.

The FC Porto forward opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after latching onto a brilliant pass from Moses Simon to give Nigeria the lead.

Despite dominating large periods of the match, the Super Eagles failed to clear a corner kick properly, allowing Nicola Zalewski to beat goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and level scores shortly before halftime.

Nigeria regained the advantage in the second half when Paul Onuachu calmly converted from the penalty spot after a Polish defender handled the ball inside the box.

However, the hosts rescued a late draw deep into stoppage time through Przemyslaw Wisniewski’s long-range effort from 25 yards out.

Speaking with Brila FM after the match, Moffi expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance against Poland while admitting that Portugal would present a tougher test.

“We had a good game against Poland and I am happy I scored.

“However, I think Portugal Will be a difficult test for the Super Eagles.”

Nigeria will now turn attention to their upcoming friendly against World Cup-bound Portugal on June 10.

Although the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the friendly matches are being used to assess tactical options and evaluate new players ahead of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
