Friendly: Ekpo hails Super Eagles after Poland draw

Former Nigerian international, Friday Ekpo, has praised the Super Eagles following their 2-2 draw with the Poland national team in Wednesday’s international friendly.

Nigeria national football team took the lead in the 23rd minute through Terem Moffi, before the hosts levelled just before the break when Kacper Potulski struck in the 45th minute for Poland national football team.

The Super Eagles regained control in the 77th minute after Paul Onuachu calmly converted from the penalty spot, seemingly putting Nigeria on course for victory.

However, the game ended in heartbreak for Nigeria as Przemysław Wiśniewski produced a stunning 25-yard effort deep into stoppage time to rescue a draw for the hosts.

Speaking after the match, Ekpo told Complete Sports that he was pleased with Nigeria’s performance, especially their tactical discipline and control against the home side.

“It was a good game to watch, and I am impressed with the outcome of the result against Poland. The Super Eagles’s quick play and control of possession show how well the players are adapting to Eric Chelle’s tactical setup.

“From the defence to the attack, the players gave their best and could have won the game had the players closed down the space that gave the Polish player that vision to hit a shot from that distance.

“In all, it was a wonderful performance from the players, and I know they will get better when they face Portugal in their next friendly game.”

After the Poland encounter, Nigeria will now turn attention to another high-profile friendly against World Cup-bound Portugal national football team on June 10.

Although the Super Eagles will not feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the team is using these friendly matches to fine-tune tactics and assess new players ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
