A fire outbreak on Monday destroyed an open recycling site and spread to adjoining structures along Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
The incident was confirmed by the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, who said the agency received a distress call at about 1:08 p.m.
According to her, firefighting teams from the Agege and Abesan fire stations were immediately dispatched to the location to contain the blaze.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from an open space being used for informal recycling activities by some individuals,” Adeseye stated.
She explained that the fire later extended to a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church, resulting in damage to both structures.
“One adult female was affected by shock at the scene and was promptly attended to and stabilised by emergency responders,” she said, adding that no deaths were recorded.
Adeseye noted that firefighters successfully brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to other surrounding properties.
She added that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, while reiterating the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service urges residents to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations to prevent similar incidents,” she said.
