A fire outbreak on Friday engulfed a petrol station in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, sparking panic among residents and motorists.
The incident occurred at A1 Petroleum Filling Station located on Isawo Road, off Agric Bus Stop, when a truck reportedly loaded with diesel caught fire within the premises.
According to eyewitnesses, the sudden blaze forced customers, staff, and passersby to flee for safety as fears of an explosion spread.
“I was buying fuel when I saw smoke rising from the back of the station. Within minutes, the fire spread, and everyone started running,” said a commuter, identified as Adebayo.
Emergency teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly mobilized to the scene to battle the inferno. In a brief update posted on X, the agency confirmed that the flames had been extinguished.
“Emergency Alert! Our firefighters have successfully put out the fire at A1 Petroleum Filling Station, Isawo Road, Ikorodu. Further details will be communicated,” the statement read.
As of press time, officials had yet to disclose whether there were casualties or the full extent of property damage.
Another resident, Mrs. Omolola Adeyemi, expressed concern over the frequency of similar incidents in Lagos.
“We hear about fire accidents at filling stations too often. Authorities need to enforce strict safety measures because lives are at risk,” she said.
