The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Olasijibomi Ogundele has denied allegations of money laundering and diversion of funds, following a notice by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declaring him wanted.
In a video posted online, the real estate developer rejected claims of financial misconduct, insisting that the issues stemmed from stalled contracts with the Enugu State government and economic challenges.
“I am not a thief. I did not steal government money. I am a victim of failed agreements and rising costs. This matter has crippled my business for over three years,” Ogundele said.
He explained that his company was engaged by the Enugu State government for multiple projects, including the design of a proposed 69-storey skyscraper and the construction of public schools.
According to him, he mobilised resources, hired 42 engineers, and even relocated to Enugu for the projects, but the contracts became unsustainable due to low budgets and soaring building costs.
“I told the governor this project was impossible because of the price. The cost of cement rose from ₦7,000 to ₦10,000. But the governor said, ‘Don’t worry, you will make money from other projects,’” Ogundele narrated.
He alleged that despite his efforts, including working across local governments and enduring personal risks, the relationship with the state government broke down and the matter ended in court.
“Things went sour between myself and government. They took me to court to review the entire project. We agreed on what was owed. Now they have declared me wanted. They want to destroy my company,” he said.
Ogundele further claimed that his staff faced violent threats while executing the projects, recalling incidents where gunmen attacked his team. He added that he sustained a back injury from an accident while on site.
The businessman maintained that he was committed to clearing his name.
“There couldn’t be a way it went sour on me. But I am going to the EFCC’s office to clear my name,” he affirmed.
