In a significant move aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct 77,400 social housing units across the country.
According to The PUNCH, the initiative falls under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, disclosed the development in a recent statement, emphasizing the ministry’s focus on mass housing delivery and strategic partnerships to meet its targets.
“Our core mandate is to provide affordable housing for Nigerians,” Ata stated. “We are open to collaborations, and we encourage prospective partners like Ms Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company to present formal proposals detailing specific areas of engagement.”
According to Ata, three major cities—Lagos, Abuja, and Kano—will each host 3,000 housing units under the Renewed Hope Cities initiative. Additionally, every state across the federation will benefit from 250 units to be constructed under the Renewed Hope Estates scheme.
In a nationwide effort to reach rural and underserved populations, Ata revealed, “We will be delivering 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas, amounting to 77,400 homes across Nigeria.”
Highlighting the government’s inclusivity focus, Ata said, “Thirty percent of these housing units will be allocated to non-income Nigerians. President Tinubu insisted on this percentage even when 20 percent was earlier suggested.”
A delegation from SV-NED Incorporated, led by Allen Ke Nam, expressed a strong interest in investing in Nigeria’s affordable housing sector. Nam called on the government to make land available for the construction projects, citing the potential for job creation and the introduction of modern building technologies.
“The partnership promises not just homes, but also skills transfer and employment for thousands of Nigerians,” Nam said.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, welcomed the collaboration proposal, affirming the Ministry’s readiness to support credible investors and stakeholders.
