The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has linked North Korea to the theft of more than $6bn in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
The FBI disclosed this on Saturday, saying North Korean-linked hackers were responsible for the massive theft from the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
According to the agency, the attackers had begun laundering the stolen digital assets by converting them into ethereum, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrencies.
The FBI warned that the laundering operation could continue, stating that it expects “further laundering stages” involving the stolen digital assets.
The development adds to growing concerns over cybercrime and the use of cryptocurrency platforms to steal and move large sums of digital assets across international borders.
