Former Senate President Ameh Ebute has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to reduce fuel prices in Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, Ebute, who briefly served as Senate President in November 1993 during the Second Republic, emphasized the severe economic hardship caused by the high cost of fuel.
Ebute urged President Tinubu to consider measures to lower the pump price of petroleum products as a means to alleviate the country’s economic challenges. He stated, “Tinubu should work seriously at taming the suffering of the people and ensuring peace, because without foods, it can easily ignite anger.
“I want to advise him to look at bringing down prices of food in the country. To do this, he should reverse the price of fuel.
“As soon as fuel pump price reduces, costs of food will reduce,” he said.
Despite acknowledging the country’s hyperinflation, Ebute noted that Tinubu’s governance under his Renewed Hope Agenda has not been entirely ineffective, suggesting that with the right economic adjustments, the president could significantly improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
