A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing recent political developments and personal convictions.
Gwarzo made this known in a resignation letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the party chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area. He stated that his decision takes immediate effect.
“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state,” he said.
The former deputy governor explained that the changing political climate influenced his move, noting that it was necessary to reassess his position within the party.
“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he stated.
Gwarzo added that his resignation was driven by what he described as patriotic considerations and a desire to pursue a political direction that aligns with his principles.
“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state,” he said.
He, however, expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the ADC for their support during his time in the party.
“I sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect, and support I received during my stay,” he added.
Gwarzo did not disclose his next political move, but his exit comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
