Former Ghana coach, Claude Le Roy, has tipped Senegal as the second favourite for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, placing them just behind the Super Eagles’ main rival, Morocco.
Earlier in 2025, Le Roy had highlighted Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, and Algeria as the key teams to watch for the tournament.
In an interview with Canal+, the French tactician emphasized Senegal’s wealth of talent, suggesting they have the quality to compete fiercely with host nation Morocco for the AFCON crown.
“Senegal play well. You only have to look at the stats and before Nigeria, they are the second big favourite behind Morocco for me in this Africa Cup of Nations,” Le Roy stated.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to run in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Ivory Coast enter the tournament as defending champions after their remarkable comeback victory over Nigeria in February 2024.
