Europa: Tottenham beat Man Utd, win first trophy since 1984

Ange Postecoglou has finally ended Tottenham Hotspur’s long wait for silverware, guiding the club to its first trophy since 2008 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final, held on Wednesday in Bilbao, Spain.

The decisive moment came in the 42nd minute when Brennan Johnson latched onto a delivery from Pape Matar Sarr.

The ball took a crucial deflection off Luke Shaw on its way in, but whether it was an own goal, Johnson’s strike, or a mix of both, the forward and Spurs faithful won’t care a single toss.

One of the defining moments of the night and perhaps the season, belonged to Micky van de Ven. The defender leapt heroically into the Bilbao night sky to clear Rasmus Hojlund’s goal-bound header just before it crossed the line.

It was a breathtaking piece of defending that will be etched in Tottenham’s history books forever.
