EPL: Ederson, Savinho out of Man City, Wolves opener

Manchester City will begin their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Saturday without Ederson and Savinho, as both Brazilians have been excluded from Pep Guardiola’s matchday squad.

The duo’s absence immediately sparked speculation, given ongoing transfer links away from the Etihad this summer.

But Guardiola moved quickly to shut down suggestions that their omission was tied to uncertainty over their futures.

The City boss explained that Savinho is dealing with an injury setback and will be sidelined for a few weeks, while Ederson’s situation has nothing to do with potential transfer activity.

Speaking to reporters, Guardiola clarified, “Ederson didn’t come to me and said he wanted to leave or he has an offer. All the players here are our players and I want them. What’s going to happen in three weeks, nobody knows. Savinho is injured; he will need a few weeks.”

Pressed further on Savinho’s future, Guardiola added, “All I can say right now is that Savinho will be part of Manchester City till the end of the season, and hopefully for many more years to come. If they want to leave, they [Savinho and Ederson] will come to me and knock on my door.”

Savinho has reportedly been pushing for a move to Tottenham Hotspur in search of regular playing time, with the 2026 World Cup in mind.

Ederson, meanwhile, has stated his desire to remain with City, but rumors continue to swirl around a potential switch to Galatasaray, particularly with City linked to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

While both players remain at the club for now, Savinho appears the likelier candidate to depart first.

What is certain, however, is that neither he nor Ederson will feature when the champions kick off their league season at Molineux on August 16.
