Enugu gov reshuffles cabinet

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has appointed a new Head of Service and sworn in six commissioners in a sweeping cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and sustaining the state’s developmental momentum.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Enugu on Wednesday, marked the official appointment of Dr. Godwin Anigbo as the new Head of Service.

Governor Mbah also announced the appointment of six new commissioners to lead key ministries, while three existing commissioners were reassigned to new portfolios.

Addressing the newly appointed officials, the governor made it clear that there would be no grace period for settling in.

He charged them to immediately begin delivering on their mandates, stressing the importance of results and accountability in public office.

“We have raised expectations in Enugu State, not just among our people but across the country,” Mbah said.

“There is no honeymoon period. We operate with measurable targets, performance indicators, and timelines. You will be evaluated based on outcomes, and we expect you to hit the ground running.”

He emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that his administration does not tolerate isolated efforts but prioritizes teamwork and synergy among cabinet members.

“We don’t work in silos here. Success in our government is not attributed to individual heroes, but to the strength of a committed team. You must complement, not compete with, one another,” he added.

The oath of office was administered by Chizoba Ogbodo, a representative of the Ministry of Justice, in the presence of top government functionaries, including Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Chief of Staff Victor Udeh, and several commissioners and family members.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve. He pledged that the appointees would remain loyal to their oath and committed to advancing the administration’s vision for a greater Enugu.

“You have chosen us from among many qualified citizens, and we do not take this responsibility lightly. We are fully committed to supporting your transformational agenda and will serve with diligence, loyalty, and integrity,” he said.
