Emir of Gusau dies at 71

The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 following a prolonged illness. He died on Friday in Abuja, drawing an outpouring of grief from the people of Zamfara and beyond.

Dr. Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father. A seasoned civil servant, he rose through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states before assuming royal duties, where he served for over a decade.

Confirming the monarch’s death, the spokesperson to the Zamfara State Governor, Sulaiman Idis, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of Governor Dauda Lawal to the royal family, the Gusau emirate, and the people of the state.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau,” Governor Lawal said in a statement. “His demise is a significant loss to Zamfara State, the North, and the nation at large.”

The governor described the late Emir as a supportive traditional ruler and a wise leader who demonstrated dedication to the development of Zamfara State.

“He was not just a royal father, but also a personal mentor and confidant,” Lawal added. “His leadership was marked by a deep sense of responsibility, unwavering faith, and selfless service to his people. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
