Egypt beat Super Eagles 2-1 in AFCON warm-up

Egypt edged Nigeria’sq Super Eagles 2–1 in an international friendly played on Tuesday night at the Cairo International Stadium, as both teams continued preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of~ Nations.

The Pharaohs controlled much of the early play and took the lead in the 28th minute through Mahmoud Saber, who finished calmly from inside the penalty area after latching onto a cross from the right flank.

Nigeria responded before the interval, with centre-back Chidozie Awaziem drawing the Super Eagles level in first-half stoppage time.

Awaziem powered a close-range header into the net from a Zaidu Sanusi free kick to restore parity.

Both coaches rang in several changes after the restart, but it was Egypt who found the decisive goal.

Seven minutes into the second half, Mostafa Mohammed struck to put the hosts back in front.

The friendly defeat means the Super Eagles will now turn their focus to their opening match at AFCON 2025, where they are set to face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars next Tuesday.

Eric Chelle’s team is expected to depart for Fez, Morocco, on Thursday ahead of the continental showpiece.
