The Secretary to the Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie, has officially resigned from his position to focus on his political aspirations.
Ogie, who will be running as the deputy governorship candidate alongside the Peoples Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo in the upcoming September 21 election, tendered his resignation on August 9, 2024.
In a statement, Ogie explained, “My resignation is in fulfilment of this requirement that I had to resign to face my deputy governorship ambition in the forthcoming election in the state.”
Ogie’s departure has elicited various reactions from notable figures. Orobosa Omo-Ojo, publisher of Midwest Herald and a former colleague of Ogie in the Adams Oshiomhole administration, described him as a pivotal figure in Edo State politics.
“Ogie, who has been a compassionate and tolerant leader, leaves his post after nearly 16 years of dedicated service,” Omo-Ojo remarked.
Similarly, Kehinde Akerele, the twin brother of former Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Taiwo Akerele, praised Ogie’s open-door policy and his approachable nature. Reflecting on his experience with the outgoing SSG, Akerele said, “From the first encounter, it was clear that Ogie is a leader who is both accessible and welcoming. I wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”
Before his role as SSG, Ogie served as the Principal Partner at Osarodion Ogie & Co. He was also the Chief of Staff to Oshiomhole in 2008 and later held the position of Commissioner for Works from 2012 to 2016, before his appointment as SSG to Governor Obaseki.
