The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday granted approval for Governor Monday Okpebholo to secure a N100 billion loan facility for infrastructural development across the state.

The approval followed the governor’s request conveyed through a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor.

The letter, titled “Request for Legislative Approval of N100 billion,” stated that the loan would be sourced from First Bank Nigeria Plc. It explained that the funds would be used to finance contractors handling critical infrastructure projects in various parts of Edo State.

During the Committee of the Whole session, lawmakers unanimously endorsed the loan request, emphasizing its importance in completing ongoing infrastructure projects.

Speaker Blessing Agbebaku subsequently directed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omognai, to forward clean copies of the resolution approving the loan to the governor for immediate implementation.

In a related development, the Assembly also passed a bill establishing the St. Matthew Royal College of Nursing Science in Edenu-Irrua, further expanding the state’s educational infrastructure.
