DSS arrests doctor over drug supply to Kwara kidnappers

The Department of State Services has arrested a medical doctor allegedly involved in transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to kidnapping gangs operating across parts of Kwara State.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement shared on the official X (Twitter) handle of the Kwara State Government on Friday.

According to the statement, the doctor was intercepted in the Jebba axis following credible intelligence that linked him to the activities of kidnap syndicates and their drug couriers.

Security officials revealed that the kidnapping groups have recently intensified efforts to obtain medical treatment, particularly for members who sustained gunshot wounds during confrontations with security personnel.

A security source said the development underscores the growing desperation of the criminal networks.

“These gangs are increasingly in need of medical attention because many of them have been injured during clashes with security forces,” the official said.

“We are advising health facilities, especially those located near thick forests, to strengthen their security measures as the kidnappers may attempt to seek treatment there.”
