Atalanta director, Tony D’Amico, has expressed the club’s disappointment with Ademola Lookman, confirming that any decision regarding the Nigeria international will only come after the summer transfer window closes.
Lookman had been eager to join Inter Milan earlier this summer, but the Nerazzurri failed to meet La Dea’s €50 million valuation.
Following Inter’s withdrawal from the deal, Lookman returned to Atalanta’s training centre for pre-season preparations last week.
D’Amico’s Disappointment
“Lookman is not training with the group, and we are experiencing more and more situations like this,” D’Amico told DAZN via TMW.
“We are sorry for everyone, but right now this is the situation. We’ll make assessments at the end of the transfer window. As of today, there’s disappointment.”
Permanent Transfer Still Possible
Despite the setback, Lookman could still depart Bergamo before the transfer window closes. The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his contract.
Since joining La Dea, Lookman has scored 52 goals in 118 appearances. He was named African Player of the Year in 2024, months after delivering a hat-trick in the Europa League Final against Bayer Leverkusen to secure Atalanta’s historic victory.
