Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been officially inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body responsible for the GRAMMY Awards.
This development means the Feel crooner will participate in the nomination and voting process for the 2026 GRAMMYs, placing him among a select group of global music professionals shaping the outcome of the prestigious awards.
Confirming the news, the Recording Academy posted a video on Instagram showcasing Davido alongside other new members. The Academy wrote:
“Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication. That’s why Recording Academy members, including Davido, are sharing why your participation matters.”
The achievement comes on the heels of Davido’s three GRAMMY nominations in 2024, which marked a major milestone for Afrobeats on the global stage.
Reacting to the recognition, Davido described his inclusion as a privilege and a responsibility.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. Voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said.
The Recording Academy has, in recent years, made efforts to expand its membership base to include more diverse voices from Africa and other regions, reflecting the growing influence of international music on the global scene.
Voting for the 2026 GRAMMYs will commence on October 3, according to the Academy.
“Recording Academy voting members: review the ballot, listen, and vote early,” it announced.
Davido’s induction further cements his status as one of Africa’s most influential music exports, while also spotlighting the growing global relevance of Afrobeats.
