Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has unveiled plans to venture into the film industry, with multiple investments and creative projects expected to roll out before the end of the year.
In a recent interview with content creator Darryl, Davido revealed that filmmaking has always been a passion of his and that he may have chosen a career in film had he not found success in music.
“I studied business marketing, so I would have still been in the entertainment space if I wasn’t singing but probably, more of behind the scenes,” Davido said.
The singer explained that his academic background prepared him for a broader role in the entertainment industry beyond music. He disclosed that he is now channeling his interest into developing film and series projects in collaboration with his longtime music video director, Dammy Twitch.
“I am investing in a couple of films this year. Shout-out to my director, Dammy Twitch. We have some ideas, series coming. The film space right now in Africa is going bankrupt. So, we are definitely going to tap into that,” he said.
Beyond producing, Davido expressed his desire to act professionally, noting that he has already demonstrated his acting talent in several of his music videos.
“I can also act. I can act for real. I act in my music videos. I acted in music videos like ‘Jowo’, ‘Nwa Baby’,” he noted.
This announcement comes shortly after the release of his fifth studio album, 5ive, which dropped on Friday. The 17-track album features a mix of Nigerian and international stars, including Chris Brown, Omah Lay, Victony, Victoria Monét, Becky G, and Shensea.
Leading up to the album launch, Davido released several singles, including Be There Still, Funds featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, and Awuke featuring YG Marley.
5ive follows the success of his 2023 album Timeless, which debuted at number one on Billboard’s World Albums Chart, further cementing his place as one of Africa’s most influential music figures.
