The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has quietly introduced a rebate on its Premium Motor Spirit, offering customers a N10 refund per litre after purchasing fuel at the ex-depot rate of N835.
According to The PUNCH, sources familiar with the development confirmed on Monday, May 12, that while the official price remains N835 per litre, marketers who lift fuel from the refinery receive a N10 reimbursement, effectively reducing the net price to N825.
A top industry source said, “It’s not an official price slash, but Dangote refinery has begun issuing rebates after the loading process. This helps marketers stay competitive without triggering an official price war.”
The move allows marketers to sell petrol between N830 and N835 per litre, undercutting private depots and fuel importers who struggle to match the reduced cost.
This latest price adjustment follows an earlier reduction in April when the refinery slashed its price from N880 to N835, a N45 drop within a single week. That decision came after the federal government resumed the Naira-for-Crude exchange deal with local refiners, boosting domestic production and easing pressure on forex.
Efforts to reach the Dangote Group’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, for official comments proved unsuccessful as of press time.
