The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nigeria has warned prospective Nigerian students against online claims that they are eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship programme for the 2027/2028 academic year.
The embassy said Nigeria was not included among the countries eligible for the scholarship scheme for the academic session.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the embassy on Monday following the circulation of information on websites claiming that Nigerian applicants could apply for the programme.
The embassy said, “For the 2027/2028 academic year, Nigeria is not among the countries eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship programme.”
It urged Nigerian students to disregard scholarship information published on unofficial platforms that lists Nigeria as an eligible country.
“We have seen some information circulating online about Czech Government Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year, including information stating that applicants from Nigeria are eligible. Please note that this information is NOT accurate,” the embassy stated.
The diplomatic mission acknowledged the growing interest among Nigerian students in pursuing education in the Czech Republic but stressed that the government-funded scholarship would not be open to applicants from Nigeria during the 2027/2028 academic year.
“We know that many Nigerian students are interested in studying in the Czech Republic, and we understand that this may be disappointing news,” it said.
“Unfortunately, the Czech Government Scholarship is not available to applicants from Nigeria this year.”
The embassy advised students seeking information on scholarship opportunities to rely on official sources rather than websites or social media posts whose claims have not been verified.
It specifically directed prospective applicants to information provided by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, an organisation responsible for providing information on international study opportunities.
The embassy further cautioned, “Please do not rely on information published on unofficial websites stating that Nigeria is eligible for the 2027/2028 Czech Government Scholarship.”
The clarification is aimed at preventing Nigerian students from making financial or academic preparations based on inaccurate information about their eligibility for the scholarship.
The embassy expressed appreciation for the interest shown by Nigerian students in studying in the Czech Republic and wished prospective applicants success in their academic pursuits.
