The law firm representing Sophia Momodu in her ongoing child custody dispute with Afrobeats star Davido has warned the singer and his supporters against statements and actions capable of intimidating legal practitioners involved in the case.
In a statement issued on Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors criticised what it described as inflammatory comments on social media targeting one of its partners, Ebelechukwu Enedah, over her role in the proceedings before a Lagos court.
The firm emphasised that the custody matter is before the court and should be resolved strictly through legal processes.
“The case is sub judice and will be determined only by the court on the basis of evidence and law,” the statement said.
It added that harassment or threats directed at lawyers for performing their professional duties could weaken public confidence in the justice system.
“If legal practitioners are exposed to intimidation or harassment outside the courtroom for discharging their responsibilities, then the foundation of justice itself is endangered,” the firm noted.
The warning followed a series of social media posts by Davido last week, in which the singer expressed anger over comments made during cross-examination in court.
In one of the posts, he criticised the conduct of a lawyer and described the courtroom exchange as insensitive to his personal loss.
The controversy widened after Davido mistakenly mentioned gospel artiste Tosin Bee, leading to online harassment directed at the musician. Tosin Bee later clarified he had no involvement in the case.
“I believe this is a case of mistaken identity. I do not know anything about the post, but my prayers are with you,” he wrote in response.
The backlash against Enedah reportedly became intense enough for her to restrict access to her social media accounts.
Punuka Attorneys reiterated that it would take all lawful steps to protect its lawyers and ensure the integrity of the judicial process.
“Any conduct aimed at interfering with the administration of justice will attract the full consequences provided by law,” the firm warned.
Meanwhile, Davido had earlier indicated on social media that he was no longer pursuing the custody suit, explaining that his initial request was for joint custody rather than sole custody of his daughter.
“Nobody won, nobody lost — but my child. I only wanted joint custody,” the singer wrote, adding that he decided to discontinue the case after the court proceedings became emotionally charged.
