Nigerian socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to Davido’s loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards, alleging that the outcome was a calculated move by certain music industry power brokers to pressure the Afrobeats star into compromising his values.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the ceremony held on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
However, the award went to South African singer Tyla for her song “Push 2 Start” from her self-titled album Tyla.
Taking to Instagram, Cubana Chief Priest suggested that Davido’s repeated Grammy setbacks were connected to his refusal to conform to what he described as “demonic” practices within the Western music industry.
He urged the singer to remain steadfast and not sacrifice his principles for awards or industry approval.
He wrote, “Oyibo dey do everything possible to break a strong man so he can do their demonic sh*t with them but he will never do ot. Heads up brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water.”
Despite the loss, Cubana Chief Priest encouraged Davido to focus on making music and entertaining his fans, stressing that awards should not define his success.
Tyla secured the win ahead of a strong field that included Burna Boy (“Love”), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (“Gimme Dat”), Davido (“With You” featuring Omah Lay), and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin (“Hope & Love”).
The victory marked Tyla’s second Grammy Award, following her first win in 2024 for her global hit “Water.”
