Cross River confirms implementation of ₦70,000 minimum wage

The Cross River State Government has affirmed that it has fully implemented the ₦70,000 national minimum wage, following an agreement reached with organised labour.

State Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, disclosed this on Tuesday in Calabar during a briefing to unveil activities for the ongoing Civil/Public Service Day celebration.

“His Excellency has graciously approved the ₦70,000 minimum wage, which we have implemented exactly as written in the agreement,” Eteng said.

He dismissed claims that the administration of Governor Bassey Otu had failed to implement the new wage, describing such assertions as “ignorant and naive.”

“As the Head of Service, I speak authoritatively. This is information you can take to the bank. Minimum wage across the state, across all levels, has been implemented to the letter. Commend the governor for that,” he added.

Eteng noted that the implementation was part of the Otu administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring that civil servants are adequately compensated.

The Head of Service also outlined events marking the Civil/Public Service Day, which include a city walk by civil servants, a public lecture, award presentations to outstanding workers at UJ Esuene Stadium, a keynote address by the Secretary to the State Government, and a lecture by Rev. Fr. Bob Etta.
