A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man, Caleb Ajobor, at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre over allegations of assault and issuing threats to a woman’s life.
The accused was brought before the court on Wednesday, following an incident said to have occurred on June 29, 2025, at the Ekute area of the state capital.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, Ajobor allegedly assaulted a woman, Omotayo Olowolagba, by hitting her on the chest and behaving in a manner that could disturb public peace.
“The defendant, on the stated date and location, assaulted and threatened the life of Omotayo Olowolagba. His actions were not only violent but also posed a risk to societal peace,” Oriyomi told the court.
The prosecutor explained that the alleged offences are in contravention of Sections 185, 46, and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Laws of 2021, urging the court to remand the defendant pending further hearing.
However, Ajobor’s legal counsel, Adunni Olanipekun, appealed to the court to grant her client bail, assuring that he would be available for future court proceedings.
“My client is ready to face trial. He has no intention of evading justice,” Olanipekun pleaded.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun declined the bail application and directed that the defendant be held in custody.
“The court finds merit in the prosecution’s submission. The bail application is hereby denied,” Adeosun ruled, adjourning the case until July 11, 2025, for further hearing.
