Getafe midfielder, Christantus Uche, has undergone successful surgery in Lyon, France, following the serious knee injury he suffered during his side’s La Liga encounter against AS Monaco on August 6.
The Spanish club confirmed that the operation was carried out as planned and without complications, with Getafe’s medical team closely involved in the procedure.
The surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr Christofer Oyola, Getafe CF’s head of medical services, and Álvaro García Zudaire, who oversees the club’s physiotherapy department.
Uche, who has established himself as an important member of the Getafe squad, will now begin a rehabilitation programme aimed at helping him make a full recovery and return to competitive action.
Getafe said it would provide the Nigerian midfielder with all the necessary medical and rehabilitation resources throughout his recovery, while continuing to monitor his progress.
“From today, the footballer begins the rehabilitation process, in which he counts on the company and support of the club,” Getafe said in a statement.
The club also expressed its support for the 22-year-old, urging him to remain positive throughout what is expected to be a lengthy recovery process.
“From the club we want to transfer all our encouragement and support to Christantus in this process, with the desire that the evolution progresses in the best possible way, as the whole Getafense family wishes,” the club added.
Uche joined Getafe from Spanish lower-league side Ceuta in 2024 and quickly attracted attention with his versatility, work rate and ability to operate in midfield and attack.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Nigerian, who has been seeking to build on his impressive performances in Spanish football and strengthen his case for greater involvement with the Super Eagles.
No specific timeframe has been announced for his return, with his recovery expected to depend on how he responds to rehabilitation.
Getafe and their supporters will now hope Uche makes steady progress and returns to the pitch at full fitness.
Mucho ánimo, Uche!
