Chelsea bounced back in style from their frustrating opening-day stalemate with Crystal Palace by thrashing West Ham 5-1 at the London Stadium on Friday night.

Eighteen-year-old Estêvão, making headlines as Chelsea’s new teenage star, became the youngest player in the club’s Premier League history to provide an assist, setting up Enzo Fernández for the Blues’ third goal.

It was West Ham, however, who struck first. Lucas Paquetá fired in a long-range effort just six minutes in to give the Hammers an early lead.

Their joy didn’t last long as João Pedro equalised with a well-timed header in the 15th minute. Pedro Neto added a second eight minutes later before Fernández made it 3-1 on 34 minutes, ensuring Chelsea went into halftime firmly in control.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts after the restart. Debutant goalkeeper Mads Hermansen endured a nightmare evening, spilling a cross that allowed Moisés Caicedo to pounce in the 54th minute, before Trevoh Chalobah added a fifth goal just four minutes later from another corner.

The result leaves Graham Potter’s men sitting top of the table on four points, while West Ham, who have already shipped eight goals in their opening two matches, find themselves rock bottom without a point.
