Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the acquisition of striker Liam Delap from relegated Ipswich Town.

In an official statement released on Wednesday night, the club announced, “Chelsea is delighted to announce the transfer of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, with the striker signing a contract until 2031.”

The 22-year-old forward is understood to have joined the Europa Conference League champions in a deal valued at £30 million.

Following the completion of his move, Delap expressed his excitement, “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach.

“It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”

Delap, a regular in England’s Under-21 setup, enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 Premier League campaign, netting 12 goals and earning a nomination for the Young Player of the Year award.

He began his football journey in the Derby County academy before switching to Manchester City in 2019. After impressing with City’s Under-18s, Delap progressed to the Elite Development Squad, where he played under Enzo Maresca, now Chelsea’s head coach.

During his time at City, he made a big impact by scoring 24 goals in just 20 Premier League 2 games, finding the net on his senior debut in the League Cup, and making his Premier League debut against Leicester City.

Delap’s senior experience grew with loan stints at Stoke City and Preston North End. His performances in the 2023/24 season with Hull City, where he scored eight goals, paved the way for a move to newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

The young striker has represented England across various youth levels, with his latest appearances for the Under-21s coming in March.
