Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, believes there is a striking resemblance between Florian Wirtz and Kevin De Bruyne.
Wirtz joined the Reds in June from his boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen, signing a five-year deal for a club-record fee.
The 22-year-old impressed in the Bundesliga last season, netting 16 goals and providing 15 assists across 45 appearances.
Although expectations were high for Wirtz’s Premier League debut, his first league outing may not have fully lived up to them.
Nevertheless, Carragher, speaking to Liverpool’s official website, suggested that the midfielder has the potential to become the Premier League’s next De Bruyne-esque superstar.
“I think Liverpool getting that deal done was fantastic. He came off on Friday night and probably wasn’t at his absolute best, but even so, he still showed some silky, lovely touches, there’s just something special when you watch him play.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing how he performs next weekend. I’m already imagining the Liverpool team next Monday. He might actually play as a false nine, or Liverpool might go with a striker alongside him.
“With Kevin De Bruyne leaving, we needed a superstar in that kind of position in the league, and I think he could be that player to watch.”
