The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, will head Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., which officially open on Monday, October 13.
Cardoso, who serves as the Alternate Governor for Nigeria at the Bretton Woods institutions, is stepping in for the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, who is reportedly indisposed.
A statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development.
“The Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., opening Monday, October 13.
He will be joined by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite,” Onanuga said.
The high-level meetings will bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, and policymakers from around the world to discuss pressing global economic and development issues.
According to the World Bank, key highlights of the Annual Meetings include the Development Committee Plenary session on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee meetings scheduled for October 17.
Other side events will feature regional briefings, press conferences, and specialized forums focusing on international development, global economic stability, and financial market trends.
The Nigerian delegation is expected to engage with international partners and financial institutions to advance discussions on economic reforms, fiscal stability, and opportunities for sustainable development.
