Flamingos of Nigeria captain and Bayelsa Queens midfielder Shakirat Moshood has fallen short in the race for the 2025 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award, which was won by Morocco’s rising star Doha El Madani.
The prestigious honour was announced on Wednesday at the awards ceremony in Morocco, where Moshood narrowly missed out despite an impressive year for club and country.
El Madani’s victory further cemented her status as one of Africa’s brightest young talents.
The Moroccan youngster recently clinched the Young Player of the Year award in the Moroccan Women’s Championship and also shone at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, where she was named Young Player of the Tournament.
Her latest CAF accolade caps a remarkable season of individual brilliance.
In the men’s category, Morocco enjoyed more success as Othmane Maamma scooped the Young Player of the Year award.
