Burnley agree deal to sign Chelsea’s Ugochukwu

Burnley have reached an agreement with Chelsea to secure the services of midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu on a permanent deal, according to BBC Sport.

The 21-year-old has been granted permission to undergo a medical at Turf Moor and is expected to commit to a five-year contract.

Ugochukwu has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea aiming to offload several players from what has been dubbed their “bomb squad”, a separate training group featuring names like England internationals Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, as new head coach Enzo Maresca reshapes his squad.

In a related development, Burnley are also close to finalising a deal for striker Armando Broja from Chelsea, which would mark the third transfer between the clubs this window. Defender Bashir Humphreys earlier completed a £14m move to Turf Moor.

Ugochukwu initially joined Chelsea from Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2023 for a reported £23m.

He made 15 appearances across all competitions in his debut season before spending the following campaign on loan at Southampton.

The France Under-21 international now looks set for a fresh start under Burnley’s setup.
