Nigeria have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a commanding 2-0 victory against Algeria in Saturday’s quarter-final clash.
The Super Eagles, eager to avenge past disappointments against the Desert Foxes, dominated much of the first half but struggled to convert their chances.
Nigeria’s defence, marshalled by William Troost-Ekong, held firm as Algeria tried to respond, while goalkeeper Maduka Okoye made a crucial save to keep the hosts at bay.
The closest Nigeria came to breaking the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes was a sensational effort from Calvin Bassey, which was spectacularly cleared off the line by the Algerian defence.
After the break, the Super Eagles’ pressure finally paid off. Victor Osimhen rose highest to meet Bruno Onyemaechi’s precise cross, powering a header past the Algerian goalkeeper.
Later, Osimhen showcased his vision and composure, setting up Akor Adams to slot in Nigeria’s second goal, sealing the win.
With this victory, Nigeria continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title and will now face host nation Morocco in what promises to be a tense semi-final showdown.
The Eagles will aim to carry their momentum forward, hoping to reach the final in Casablanca.
