Former world heavyweight champions, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally meet in the ring when they clash at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on December 11.
The highly anticipated all-British heavyweight bout was officially confirmed on Thursday by boxing powerbroker Turki Al-Sheikh, ending months of uncertainty over the venue and date.
The fight had been in the works since Fury and Joshua signed contracts in April, but negotiations over where the contest would take place prolonged the process.
Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, had insisted on a clause requiring the bout to be staged in the United Kingdom.
Several venues, including Wembley Stadium in London, Croke Park in Dublin, Madison Square Garden in New York and locations in Las Vegas, had previously been considered before Cardiff was selected.
The Principality Stadium, Wales’ national stadium, has a capacity of 73,931 and features a retractable roof.
The scheduled start time has not yet been announced, with Netflix, which will broadcast the fight, reportedly seeking a time that suits its United States audience.
Al-Sheikh’s Ring Magazine and American promoter Dana White will jointly promote the event, while Netflix said details of the undercard would be announced later.
“Two of the best heavyweights of this generation, finally in the ring together,” Al-Sheikh said. “This will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.”
White added, “For more than a decade, boxing fans have been clamoring for the heavyweight showdown… On December 11, two of the biggest heavyweights of this generation finally collide – and the winner will take a significant place in heavyweight history.”
For Joshua, 36, the contest will be his second fight since he was involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria in December, which claimed the lives of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
He returned to action in July, stopping Albania’s Kristian Prenga.
Fury, 38, has also returned to the ring following two defeats to former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He has since recorded victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach.
The December showdown will mark the first professional meeting between the two British heavyweights after years of negotiations and speculation surrounding a potential fight.
