Werder Bremen has confirmed that Nigerian international Victor Boniface is set to undergo surgery on his injured knee on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has been out of action since December due to persistent knee issues and recently consulted a specialist in Austria to address the problem.
As a result, Boniface will now miss the rest of the season. However, his loan arrangement with Bayer Leverkusen will remain valid until the campaign concludes.
“We are pleased that we have now found a solution and that Victor will undergo surgery. This provides clarity for all parties,” the club said on its official website.
“Due to the rehabilitation process, we no longer expect Victor to play for Werder this season.”
Before his injury, Boniface contributed two assists across 12 appearances for the Greens.
