In a bid to strengthen security operations across Bayelsa, the state government has handed over 31 brand-new operational vehicles to various security agencies.
The official presentation took place at the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday, shortly after the conclusion of the 38th State Security Council meeting.
Governor Douye Diri, who presided over the handover, stated that the initiative was a direct response to repeated calls for logistics support made by service commanders during previous meetings.
“It has been a recurring decimal during our security meetings—requests for vehicles to enhance operations,” Governor Diri remarked. “Today, we are glad to put that issue to rest.”
The newly distributed vehicles were shared among key security outfits as follows:
Nigeria Police Force: 6 vehicles, including one designated for the Commissioner of Police
Department of State Services (DSS): 4 vehicles, one of which is for the State Director
Nigerian Army: 4 vehicles, with one allocated to the Brigade Commander
Nigerian Navy: 4 vehicles, mirroring the Army’s distribution
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps: 3 vehicles
Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service: 2 vehicles each
Diri urged the security agencies to redouble their efforts in combating crime and maintaining peace, while also stressing the need for diligent upkeep of the vehicles.
Speaking on behalf of all the agencies, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, expressed appreciation to the government for the vital support.
“This will significantly boost our operational capacity,” Idu affirmed. He also pledged strengthened inter-agency collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and enhancing governance across the state.
