Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five people, including a woman and her infant, from suspected terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Nigerian Army said the rescue followed intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists around Madaci Forest.
According to a statement shared by the Army on Thursday, troops moved into the area after receiving the information and disrupted the suspected terrorists’ activities.
The Army said the intervention created confusion among the attackers, enabling the troops to rescue the victims.
Those rescued comprised a mother and her infant, as well as three other minors and young adults who were reportedly abducted from Danja and Funtua Local Government Areas.
The victims were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Abubakar Musa, for reunification with their families.
The Army said, “The troops’ intervention caused confusion in the enemy camp, creating an opportunity to rescue the victims.”
The operation, according to the military, forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities and protect communities in the region.
In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion reportedly repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in Badiya Village, Shagari Local Government Area.
The troops, acting on intelligence about suspicious movements, engaged the attackers and forced them to withdraw from the area.
The military said the fleeing suspects abandoned a large number of rustled livestock, which were later recovered and returned to their owners.
The return of the animals was facilitated by the Chairman of Shagari Local Government Area and the local District Head.
The Army said its troops would continue what it described as “aggressive patrols” in the affected communities to restrict the movement of criminals and help restore normalcy.
