Troops of the 1 Division, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully foiled a bandit attack in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State, killing one suspected violent extremist and recovering stolen livestock, the Nigerian Army has confirmed.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Captain Bello Nuradeen, Acting Staff Officer Grade 2, Community Relations, Army Public Relations 1 Division/Sector 1 OPFY, the operation followed a distress call on January 22 reporting that armed bandits had raided Anguwan Fulan village and rustled livestock.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops deployed to the area and set up a hasty ambush,” the statement said. “Upon encountering the fleeing bandits, our forces engaged with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to retreat in disarray and sustain gunshot injuries.”
The troops pursued the bandits into nearby forested areas, including Kankomi Forest, making contact again at a suspected crossing point around Anguwan Sarki.
During the engagement, the soldiers overwhelmed the assailants, recovered the stolen livestock, and forced the bandits to flee.
Further operations in the early hours of January 23 led to the neutralisation of one suspected terrorist. The Army also recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and fifteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Major General Abubakar Sadiq Wase, General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander of Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their bravery.
He urged them to “sustain the tempo of operations in pursuing criminals around their hideouts” and reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He also appealed to citizens to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
