Panic gripped residents of Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, after suspected kidnappers stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, May 26, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed attackers arrived between midnight and 1:30am, operating unchallenged for over an hour. During the invasion, several residents were reportedly held hostage, with at least two individuals — a man and a woman — abducted by the gunmen.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the woman was later found within the estate premises at daybreak.

The reasons behind her sudden release remain unknown at the time of this report.

One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the attackers as heavily armed and said they overwhelmed the estate’s local vigilante group.

“They were many and had sophisticated weapons. The police only arrived at about 1am, and there was a heavy exchange of gunfire that lasted around 30 minutes,” he said.

The community members are now calling on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and security agencies to step up efforts in safeguarding lives and property.

“We are pleading with the government to rehabilitate the road leading to our estate to allow easier access for security patrols. We also need a nearby police station to ensure rapid response in emergencies,” another resident appealed.
