A violent gang led by a notorious thug, Ismaila Aluko, has launched a coordinated attack on the Osun State Amotekun Corps command in Awo, Egbedore Local Government Area, leaving five officers injured.
The assault, which occurred over the weekend, began when Amotekun operatives responded to a distress call from the Oniwoye of Iwoye regarding an alleged illegal burial on ancestral land.
According to the spokesperson of the Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu, the officers arrived at the location to discover that the burial had already taken place.
“To our shock, the notorious criminal Ismaila Aluko, who has been on our wanted list for a long time, surfaced with a gang of armed men and launched a violent attack on our operatives,” Idowu said.
Following the initial confrontation, the officers were forced to retreat to the command headquarters in Awo to prevent further escalation. However, the gang later regrouped and launched a second attack on the Awo command office.
“This second assault occurred despite the presence of law enforcement officers, including members of the Nigeria Police Force, an officer from the Department of State Services, and some relatives of the attackers,” Idowu stated.
During the renewed violence, the assailants attempted to disarm the Amotekun officers, inflicting multiple injuries. One officer reportedly sustained serious injuries, while four others suffered minor wounds.
Describing the attack as a “direct assault on community peace and security,” Idowu assured residents that Amotekun is collaborating with other security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
“We remain resolute in our mission to protect lives, property, and ensure peace in our communities,” he affirmed.
