Algeria fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Burundi in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group I encounter in Bujumbura on Tuesday.
Burundi took a surprise early lead after Algeria midfielder Farès Chaïbi turned the ball into his own net in the fifth minute at the Intwari Stadium.
The hosts doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Girumugisha found the net to put Burundi 2-0 ahead.
Algeria responded before the break, with Bachir Belloumi reducing the deficit in the 30th minute after the visitors increased the pressure.
The Desert Warriors continued to push after the restart and were rewarded in the 63rd minute when Adil Boulbina curled a free-kick from about 25 metres into the top corner to make it 2-2.
Neither side could find a winning goal as Algeria settled for a point, taking their tally to four points from two matches and leaving them top of Group I pending the result between Zambia and Togo.
Algeria had opened their qualifying campaign with a 3-1 victory over Zambia, while Burundi lost 1-0 away to Togo in their opening fixture.
The next round of matches will see Algeria face Togo in a double-header between November 9 and 17, while Burundi will take on Zambia home and away.
