The member representing Orumba North and South in the House of Representatives, Chinwe Clara Nnabuife, has officially defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, leaving her former party, the Young Progressives Party.

Nnabuife, who previously won her federal seat by defeating Okwudili Ezenwankwo under the YPP banner, made the announcement during a ceremony held in Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday.

In her address to the crowd of supporters and APGA members, Nnabuife expressed that her decision to switch parties was expected and inevitable. “What is happening today is expected—I am back home,” she declared, referencing her return to APGA, the party where she initially began her political career.

Nnabuife further emphasized her commitment to strengthening APGA, stating, “If APGA had 70% in the last election, it will be 99.5% from now,” indicating her belief that her return would significantly enhance the party’s prospects. She called for collective support in advancing APGA’s agenda and praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his continued support during her election campaign, highlighting his dedication to the party.

Describing her return as the start of a new era for the people of Orumba North and South, Nnabuife urged others to join APGA, branding it as “the party to beat” in the upcoming November 8 governorship election. She expressed confidence that her defection would further solidify APGA’s political influence in the region.

Ifeatu Obiokoye, the Anambra State Chairman of APGA, welcomed Nnabuife into the party, urging members to unite in strengthening APGA’s presence and power. He also made it clear that the party would not tolerate any anti-party activities. To formalize her membership, Obiokoye presented Nnabuife with a temporary membership card and pledged to serve as a witness if needed.

APGA chairmen from Orumba North and South, Cyril Nwobu and Chike Nwafor, respectively, described Nnabuife’s defection as a landmark event for the party. They noted that her move affirmed APGA’s growing popularity and acceptance among the people and encouraged other politicians in the area to follow her example.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shedrack Azubuike, Chairman of Orumba South; Ngozi Obidike, Deputy Chairman of Orumba South; and Engineer Emmanuel Nwafor, an Anambra State House of Assembly member.
