The Osun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, says it has arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Ayobola Awe, popularly called “Bishop Awasere”, in the Isokun area of Ilesa.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yusuf Abass.

According to Abass, the suspect had long been on the radar of security agencies for alleged involvement in murder and kidnapping activities.

“Our operatives tracked Awe and his notorious gang to a hideout in the Isokun axis of Ilesa at about 5:59 p.m.,” Abass said.

“During the raid, we recovered hard drugs and a cache of charms believed to be used by the gang for spiritual fortification.”

He added that while Awe was taken into custody, other members of his group escaped during the operation.

“We have launched a manhunt for the fleeing gang members to ensure they are brought to justice,” the Amotekun spokesman stated.

The Corps described the operation as a major breakthrough in its campaign against violent crime in the state.

“This arrest marks a significant stride in our efforts to rid Osun and its environs of criminals who terrorize innocent residents,” Abass stressed.

The development comes days after the Ondo State Amotekun Corps paraded 28 suspects allegedly involved in various crimes, including kidnapping, cattle rustling, vandalism, and theft.
