Real Madrid boss, Xabi Alonso, has heaped praise on midfielder Fede Valverde, drawing a comparison between the Uruguayan and Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.
Alonso, who once shared the pitch with Gerrard during their playing days at Liverpool, was speaking after Real Madrid’s 3-1 triumph over Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday.
Valverde played a key role in the victory, finding the back of the net as Los Blancos saw off the Mexican side.
In his post-match remarks, Alonso didn’t hold back his admiration for the dynamic midfielder, “Fede Valverde is a Steven Gerrard profile.
“Every coach wants a Fede Valverde in his team. He’s incredible.”
With momentum on his side, Valverde will aim to carry his fine form into Real Madrid’s upcoming clash against RB Salzburg on Friday.
