Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Tuesday officially inaugurated the newly reconstituted Ondo State Council of Obas, marking a significant step in strengthening the partnership between the government and traditional rulers.

The ceremony, held at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure, emphasized the critical role of monarchs in governance, community development, and cultural preservation.

The 12th Council since the state’s creation will be chaired by His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo.

In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the Council as an indispensable institution in the state’s governance structure, urging the royal fathers to provide impartial guidance on cultural affairs, security, and grassroots development.

“You are the custodians of our cultural heritage and the closest link between government and the grassroots,” the Governor said. “Let me assure you — this administration will not dethrone any monarch. Only God installs kings, and we will continue to honour that sacred order.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa further charged the monarchs to remain proactive in addressing security challenges, youth engagement, and the preservation of cultural values.

He highlighted that an interactive session followed the inauguration to allow traditional rulers to directly engage with government officials on pressing community issues.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters and Special Duties, Comrade Bola Taiwo, commended the administration for its respect for traditional institutions.

“Your consistent support for the traditional institution and non-interference in chieftaincy matters have allowed due process and tradition to prevail in the selection and installation of Obas,” he said.

The Governor also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past Council, led by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, for their service to the state. Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the “OUR EASE” 7-Point Agenda, Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged sustained collaboration with traditional rulers to ensure peace and prosperity across Ondo State.

“This is a call to higher service,” he concluded. “Let us walk together to build a safer, stronger, and united Ondo State.”
