Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has signed into law a ₦695 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year, following its passage by the State House of Assembly.
The signing took place on Wednesday during the October edition of the State’s Project Delivery Meeting at the Government House, Uyo.
The supplementary budget, earlier presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Itorobong Etim, was passed by the Assembly after the adoption of the committee’s report.
The revised budget brings the total 2025 appropriation for the state to ₦1.65 trillion—an increase from the original ₦955 billion passed in December 2024.
According to the committee’s breakdown, ₦125.66 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while ₦569.33 billion is for capital projects.
The funding will come from various sources including statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, derivation funds, arrears, signature bonuses, exchange gains, and value-added tax.
Speaking after signing the bill, Governor Eno expressed appreciation to the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for their swift legislative action.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-focused governance.
“Let me assure the people of Akwa Ibom State that all hands are on deck. We will continue to carry out our duties with probity and dedication for the benefit of all,” the governor said.
“With the passage and signing of the supplementary budget, we are further motivated to ensure full implementation of government programmes and projects contained in the budget.”
In a bid to accelerate project delivery, the governor announced the release of ₦60 billion to contractors with approved Interim Payment Certificates.
He also charged heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Delivery Advisors to ensure strict adherence to project timelines and standards.
The October Project Delivery Meeting featured 12 key presentations across sectors including agriculture, power, tourism, transportation, and health.
Some highlighted projects were the Tree Crop Revolution, State Electricity Market, Ibom Tourism Summit, Oron Maritime Jetty Project, CNG City Bus Project, and renovation of public facilities such as the House of Assembly Complex, Speaker’s Lodge, and General Hospitals in Ukanafun and Ibiono Ibom.
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, commended the governor for his inclusive and innovative leadership style.
“We have never witnessed this kind of delivery review in our state. It gives us a clear understanding of what is happening across sectors. For me, this is a strong oversight function,” he said.
Otong also thanked the governor for the ongoing renovation of the Assembly Complex and pledged continued legislative cooperation.
Stakeholders, including Senator Effiong Bob, praised the governor for maintaining monthly delivery sessions, describing the initiative as a benchmark for transparency and accountability.
They lauded his focus on effective service delivery, fiscal discipline, and accelerated development, reaffirming their support for his leadership as “Team Akwa Ibom United.”
