D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, is anticipating a fierce showdown when her team locks horns with Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The defending champions will face the Indomitable Lionesses on Thursday (today) at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with tip-off scheduled for 10pm Nigeria time.
“This is the business end of the tournament, and as a team we know what is at stake and we are following through our set goals with each game,” Wakama stated ahead of the encounter.
“Afrobasket is getting tougher and it shows the improving standard of the women’s game on the continent and today’s game against Cameroon will be no difference.”
Nigeria in Strong Position
D’Tigress head into the knockout phase in high spirits, having had two days of rest after topping their group.
The extra time off has allowed the team to regroup and recharge for what promises to be a physically demanding contest.
Adding to their strength is the return of veteran Shooting Guard Sarah Ogoke. The seasoned campaigner, who sat out Nigeria’s last two matches, is back in the squad and ready to lend her experience as a four-time AfroBasket champion.
Cameroon Eye Another Upset
Cameroon approach the fixture with confidence following a commanding 85-64 victory over Angola, one of the tournament favourites, in their final group game.
Interestingly, the Central African side remains the last team to defeat Nigeria in the Women’s AfroBasket, having edged D’Tigress 71-70 in a thrilling semi-final clash in Yaoundé back in 2015.
With both teams in solid form, tonight’s quarter-final promises to be a gripping battle for a place in the last four.
